Les mots nous manqueraient presque pour parler de ce fabuleux projet pédagogique avec la prestigieuse école Gobelins à Paris... Et si on commençait par le début ?
Il était une fois un joli projet qui avait envie de voir le jour... Hum'Animation.
Hélène Ros, cofondatrice de CoCreate Humanity, a vécu dix années à Paris avant de s'installer en Suisse en 2014. C'est à travers ses amis, dont la plupart travaillent aujourd'hui dans l'illustration et l'animation, qu'elle a eu l'idée de faire appel à la prestigieuse école de l'image Gobelins. Parmi les écoles d'art en France, elle connaissait notamment de réputation l'École Emile Cohl à Lyon, présente à Angoulême depuis 2021, et Gobelins, l'école de l'image.
Gobelins forme à tous les métiers de la création visuelle, de la conception à la production de l'image sous toutes ses formes (fixe, animée, interactive, immersive, 3D), de l'imprimerie 4.0 à la réalité virtuelle. Créée il y a plus de 50 ans, l'école est classée parmi les meilleurs écoles au monde en cinéma d'animation (source CCI Paris Ile-de-France).
Comment faire connaître l'initiative de soutien de CoCreate Humanity et sensibiliser les travailleurs humanitaires, les organisations humanitaires et le grand public ? Comment parler de santé mentale et de bien-être psychosocial en période post-Covid ? Comment aborder le sensible sujet de la santé mentale encore un peu tabou au sein de la communauté humanitaire ? Le support animé semblait être un parfait outil qui parlerait à tous, au-delà des barrières de la langue, un support de communication moderne et adapté à toutes les générations qui, réalisé par les étudiants de l'une des meilleurs écoles du monde, pourrait marquer les esprits des initiateurs, des jeunes producteurs et de toutes les audiences qui visualiseraient les travaux d'animation.
Après un premier échange par email avec la directrice de l'école, Nathalie Berriat, fin août 2021, puis un Zoom avec le professeur en charge des projets pédagogiques, Arnaud Lacaze-Masmonteil, tout est allé très vite. Et c'est finalement Laure Chapalain, enseignante et coordinatrice de la section Graphisme Motion Design, qui a coordonné ce magnifique projet avec CoCreate Humanity de septembre 2021 jusqu'à la date d'examen des 3ème année de Motion Design du lundi 16 mai 2022.
We are almost at a loss for words to talk about this fabulous educational project with the prestigious Gobelins school in Paris... Why don't we start at the beginning?
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful project that wanted to be born... Hum'Animation.
Hélène Ros, co-founder of CoCreate Humanity, lived in Paris for ten years before moving to Switzerland in 2014. It was through her friends, most of whom now work in illustration and animation, that she got the idea to call on the prestigious image school Gobelins. Among the art schools in France, she was familiar with the École Emile Cohl in Lyon, which has been present in Angoulême since 2021, and Gobelins, l'école de l'image.
Gobelins trains students in all areas of visual creation, from design to the production of images in all their forms (still, animated, interactive, immersive, 3D), from 4.0 printing to virtual reality. Created more than 50 years ago, the school is ranked among the best schools in the world in animation cinema (source CCI Paris Ile-de-France).
How can we raise awareness of CoCreate Humanity's support initiative among aid workers, humanitarian organisations and the general public? How to talk about mental health and psychosocial well-being in the post-Covid era? How to address the sensitive topic of mental health which is still somewhat taboo within the humanitarian community? The animated medium seemed to be a perfect tool that would speak to all, beyond language barriers, a modern communication medium adapted to all generations which, made by students from one of the best schools in the world, could leave a mark on the minds of the initiators, the young producers and all the audiences who would view the animated work.
After an initial email exchange with the school's director, Nathalie Berriat, at the end of August 2021, followed by a Zoom with the teacher in charge of educational projects, Arnaud Lacaze-Masmonteil, everything went very quickly. And it was finally Laure Chapalain, teacher and coordinator of the Graphic Motion Design section, who coordinated this magnificent project with CoCreate Humanity from September 2021 until the 3rd year Motion Design exam date on Monday 16 May 2022.
20 récits de travailleurs humanitaires, 20 animations | 20 stories of humanitarian aid workers, 20 animations
Le lundi 16 mai, CoCreate Humanity s'est rendue à Paris pour présenter le sujet d'examen final aux étudiants de 3ème année en Motion Design. Deux heures de présentation et d'échanges avec des étudiants enthousiastes, motivés, âgés de 21 à 32 ans.
Après un tirage au sort, chaque élève découvrait avec curiosité ces parcours de vie de travailleurs humanitaires qu'ils allaient s'approprier le temps d'une animation d'une minute voire une minute cinquante max.
La réalisation des animations s'est faite entre le 16 mai et le 27 mai 2022 : seulement 12 jours, un délai extrêmement court qui aura coûté plusieurs nuits blanches !
Le mardi 31 mai, nous retournions à Paris pour être aux côtés du jury (Yu Hu, Kook Ewo et Aurélien Valluet), en tant que "commanditaires" du projet, et avons eu le plaisir de savourer toutes les réalisations de 10h à 17h30. Ce fut une journée intense, riche en émotions qui restera gravée dans nos mémoires.
On Monday 16 May, CoCreate Humanity went to Paris to present the final exam topic to 3rd year Motion Design students. Two hours of presentation and exchange with enthusiastic and motivated students, aged from 21 to 32.
After a draw, each student discovered with curiosity these life stories of humanitarian workers that they were going to make their own for the duration of a one-minute to a minute and fifty seconds animation.
The animations were produced between 16 May and 27 May 2022: only 12 days, an extremely short period of time that cost several sleepless nights!
On Tuesday 31 May, we returned to Paris to be with the jury (Yu Hu, Kook Ewo and Aurélien Valluet), as "sponsors" of the project, and had the pleasure of savouring all the creations from 10am to 5.30pm. It was an intense day, rich in emotions that will remain engraved in our memories.

La majorité des étudiants ont opté pour la douceur du Handpan en utilisant les compositions de Quentin Kayser.
