Make Music Matter (MMM) and its "Healing in Harmony" program
CoCreate Humanity had the great opportunity to meet Darcy Ataman via Zoom, the Founder and CEO of Make Music Matter.
This organization is dedicated to bringing an alternate form of music therapy to survivors of conflict and trauma. Make Music Matter developed the innovative « Healing in Harmony » program in partnership with Nobel Laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege and continues to scale the innovation which is currently running in 11 sites in 8 countries around the world.
This program is a unique form of group therapy that brings together trauma survivors with a local trained psychologist and local music producer to write, record, and professionally produce songs about their emotions and experiences.
The process helps participants to develop potential for transformative change, while building self-esteem and re-establishing their sense of identity and agency.
Centered on the belief that music can be an integral part of a community-driven, holistic healing model, the program can easily be adapted to serve the needs of its beneficiaries.
We hope to have the chance to meet you in person soon and to work together to support all humanitarian aid workers in their path of recovery.
Many thanks again for your time and for your great initiative Darcy!
